Cool Swedish denim brand Rockefella, as always inspired by the fabulous fifties, delivered more of their great baggy jeans called Jeff...a great fit, proper raw denim, all the right details including decent turn ups, red heavy yarn contrasts, triple stitching, rivets and a buckle at the back, and of course an adjustable waistband...seriously these are the best baggies around !

Then there is Pike, my new Rockefella love : great blue/white pinstripe shorts with red/white striped braces. A MUST HAVE this summer.....Oh Yeah, Ike will look great in Pike !

For the girls we've got this lovely striped jersey dress with butterfly sleeves and satin bow called Judith

and their popular and oh so lovely classic fifties style polkadot bathing suit Lola, this season with matching polkadot sun hat

And to finish the cool Rockefella look and to impress Grandma at her birthday party we stock their temporary tattoos, proper sailor style !

Bobo Choses has arrived, and it is absolutely super duper. I really love the collection a LOT, the colours, the prints, the quality...it's playful, it's quirky, it's super cool, and it makes me want to go on holiday !

Even with proper winter weather outside and peoples minds still in Winter SALE mode, the lovely short sleeved t-shirts, summer dress, skirts and the fab bicycle print short are flying out of the shop !

Tootsa MacGinty has arrived as well and oh boy, the box was only half open and we sold a few styles already !

Tapete has arrived !

Hooray, the new season has officially started in The Pippa & Ike Show with the delivery of the new Tapete t-shirt collection for spring/summer 2012.

Tapete is incredibly popular in our shop, so we have ordered even more different styles then last 2 seasons, including 2 really lovely dresses. It is probably safe to say we now stock the largest selection of Tapete in the UK, and who knows, maybe even in Europe.

We like the new collection very much and hope you will too ! It is now available in our shop in Bristol and online.

Spring is on it's way !

Despite the rain, the boring grey sky and the wind howling around the shop today, everything around me is getting ready for spring....did you see all the daffodils everywhere, the small pink blossom and the promising thick buds in the trees ?

And Spring is not just getting ready in nature ! Emails keep arriving from the wonderful brands we are stocking this Spring/Summer, telling me that the new collections are on their way...hooray !

I can't wait for Spring to arrive and to fill the shop with new exciting items, so i thought i'll share a sneak preview with you.

Japanese paper balloons KamiFusen

These traditional Japanese paper balloons make fantastic party or room decoration. Hang them from a nice ribbon or some fishing line from the ceiling. Or use our DIY metal mobile to create your own display. The balloons are so lightweight, hang them above the radiator and especially on our DIY mobile they'll dance around gently...sooooooo nice !

More Ingela P Arrhenius goodies !

In the weeks running up to Christmas we introduced these fab nesting dolls from Swedish illustrator Ingela P Arrhenius to the shop. They were an instant success !

And i think it is save to say that, including all the lovely prints, the character and animal parade puzzles and our huge selection of Ingela cards, we now stock the largest selection of Ingela P Arrhenius goodies in the UK !

Not only are these animals super cute, Studio Matryoshka was so clever to make them in hard plastic. They are much more hard wearing then their wooden family members. Another bonus is that all the tops and bottoms fit really well together, so no more jammed dolls, or ones that fall apart when you pick them up...hooray !

We also added another poster to our Ingela collection, this lovely Owl print (50x70 cms) will look equally good in the kid's bedroom as it would in your living room, hallway, study or your own bedroom. We have displayed it in a frame in our shop, so come and have a look.

And many customers have asked us if Ingela did a 50x70 print of our popular Noah's Ark card...until now i had to say 'no, sorry'....but, the good news is : there now is a print available and we will have it in stock soon, i will keep you posted when it will arrive !

Santa says : Nanoblock

Nanoblocks are micro-sized building blocks, which allow you to create 3D things with great detail. It is one of the hottest toys this season in America and in The Netherlands. It has won many awards, and we think it's the best new toy and stocking filler for kids age 8 to 80 this year !

Bakfiets

After a long day in the shop, cooking, decorating the Christmas tree with P&I and doing the laundry, i finally made myself a cup of tea and sat down on the sofa in front of the fire, legs up on the table, to read my daily dose of various great blogs i follow.
I started reading a blogpost on Bambino Goodies about Dutch Cargo Bikes, and it took me a good few seconds before i realised my name was mentioned in the post...how funny !

We use our Dutch Cargo Bike (or Bakfiets) every day here in Bristol, it's a brilliant invention. Easy to manoeuvre, eco friendly, great fun for the kids and much safer then a trailer behind your bike.
In Holland, and especially in Amsterdam, the Bakfiets is such a normal way to transport your children, groceries, work stuff etc. Some have a double bench for 4 children, or they have 2 children on the bench and the baby in the Maxi Cosi in a special frame on the floor.

Last Monday i cycled with Ike in the Bakfiets to Gloucester Road to do some Christmas shopping...3 hours later i cycled back up the hill, with a big bag full of presents and groceries, a smiling Ike with rosy cheeks and a Christmas tree in the front....shame i didn't have my camera with me.

I must admit it's much easier to cycle in Amsterdam then it is here...i can't manage the hills here in Bristol with the Bakfiets, and even pushing it up a hill with the kids in the front is hard work and sometimes impossible. Maybe i can ask Santa for a little electric engine on the front wheel...

Extra opening hours in December to give you some extra time to do your Christmas shopping :

With a Daddy who is the art director of cult bike magazine Sideburn and a motorbike and bicycle fanatic, and a Dutch Mama who is used to cycling everywhere, Pippa & Ike learned at a very young age to ride a runnerbike and a bicycle (no stabilizers of course !)
Age 2 and 4 they whizzed around various skate board parks in the Bristol Area, eying up the high ramps. Now aged 3 and 5 they TOTALLY love racing around BMX tracks, with their little legs spinning like Fred Flintstone.

Daddy can never leave any 2 or 4 wheeler he owns as it is, and he's happy to infect his bunnies with this marvelous virus.....pimp your ride, loose that fear and go down that hill screaming with joy....Wooohaaaa, freedom !

This weekend is the first edition of the Rollerburn event organised by Sideburn Magazine...and that made me think : is he secretly preparing them to start the first junior Roller Derby team ? Pippa has got her first mini motor bike already...hmmmm...I wonder when he's going to teach them rollerskating....

Molo, the king of great all-over prints

At The Pippa & Ike Show we love Danish super brand Molo, the king of great all-over prints. And we don't just love them for their prints, the quality of their collection is simply fantastic, it washes well, it fits well, it stays well, it's comfortable. Customers come back to the shop to let us know their kids only want to wear that Molo dress, or those Molo leggings they have bought. And they come back for more Molo !

Molo have recently won the award for Best Danish Kids Wear Brand...quite an achievement, since there are many great Danish kids brands.

Clothes plasters

Did you ever wish for magic plasters to mend the holes on the knees or elbows of your child's clothes (and not just their real knees and elbows)....or to disguise jam or tomato sauce stains on chest height ? Well, i do, i am rubbish at removing stains and too busy to mend clothes (especially all those holes in tights and leggings), but it is so difficult to find something nice and funky to do the mending and disguising with!

Children's book illustrator Jennie Maizels designed these Clothes Plasters. They have just arrived in our shop, so tonight i will get the iron out and mend all Pippa's leggings and tights in 10 minutes....hooray !
The Clothes Plasters are beautifully embroidered iron-on fabric patches (very easy to do), they are resilient to washing and come in lots of different styles, from fairies to flaming dice. Available as sets of 10 in old fashioned plaster tins (there is a boyish tin, a girlie tin and a rock 'n roll tin) or in individual packets.

Oh, and they're not just good for mending or disguising, but also for jazzing up, customizing and giving away!

Santa says : Kidsonroof is my favorite this year

Being Dutch and a designer myself, of course i have got a soft spot for great design from my home country. And the Dutch somehow just have an extra design gene....we don't just grow tulips and daffodils, make (and eat lots of ) cheese and cycle everywhere.

The Pippa & Ike Show proudly stocks the super cool Tapete t-shirts, gorgeous baby outfits and hats from KikKid, room decor and gifts from Pakhuis Oost, Kitsch Kitchen and Global Affairs.

And now we also stock one of my (and Santa's) favorite Dutch brands : Kidsonroof !

You probably know their famous Mobile Home, the Airplane or the City Totem, or their amazing Tree with Birds Totem.

But what about these.....wouldn't the lovely Fox with 3 cubs or the Deer look absolutely fantastic as a centre piece on your Christmas table ? I think they are so beautiful !
(The deer is ± 35 cms high, the mummy fox is ± 36 cms long)

Another super new Kidsonroof family member is the Totem Book Of Animals...a beautiful box full of animal and scenery pieces you have to pop out of the pages, assemble and they are ready to be played with or to display.

My childhood in Technicolour

It is raining cats and dogs here in Bristol, the streets are empty....well, the pavements are....

While i was staring out of the window of the shop, thinking about the lovely winterhats and mittens i just ordered from Elodie Details, my brother emailed me. And when i opened one of the files attached to the email, this wonderful picture, taken on a family holiday in Swiss in the seventies, jumped off my screen.

I looked at my screen, then at the shop, back at the screen and all of a sudden it became totally clear to me where my obsession with colour, bold graphics and anything retro or vintage comes from....my own childhood in seventies technicolour !

All the clothes my brothers and i are wearing in this picture, i would immediately buy for the shop. And my mum would have bought anything i stock in my shop for us, if it would have been available back then....that thought makes me very happy !

Ebulobo

French toy brand Ebulobo manages to charme a lot of our customers, and it's easy to see why. As you probably know by now, i love brands with a strong identity and humor, and Ebulobo has got lots of both. Their toys are quirky, wellmade and funny...what about Bear who is carrying a cookie around for your little one to chew on while teething...brilliant ! Or melamine cereal bowls in the shape of a bear or Little Red Riding Hood so you can empty their bellies whilst filling up yours. A wolf hand-puppet that literally eats fingerpuppets, that you can then pull out of his tummy again...a great hit with kids in the shop. The fabric wolf book is great too, lots of funny stories to tell. Little Red Riding Hood plays you a goodnight song while the wolf on her tummy turns around and around untill he is dizzy and sleepy.

New stock of all the melamine products (bear and Little Red Riding Hood bowls, cups, spoons, plates etc) will arrive soon....so cute !

New Ingela prints

Swedish illustrator Ingela is sharing a number one position with Marc Boutavant , local Bristol star Tom Frost and Oliver Jeffers on my list of favorite illustrators at the moment.

We have got a great selection of her prints (50x70 cms), the animal parade 3d puzzle, the amazing circus nesting doll, lots of her cards (they look great framed as well !).

With your head in the clouds...

Nothing wrong with that...i'm with my head in the clouds all the time here in the shop ! White fluffy clouds on pink, blue, grey, red and even on black ......i love the black/white ones, they almost look more like cartoon bubbles then clouds ! So cool in a big boys bedroom (or a little boys one, Ike has got one and it looks great)
The design is as fantastic now as it was in the sixties. We stock the bedding in pram, cot and single bed size and the paper lampshades, changing mats, 3 in 1 storage boxes, super soft cotton blankets, the cot bumpers, plus aprons and bibs.

Farg & Form had the brilliant idea to make beanies and baby bodysuits in the cloud print as well, and we are one of the first shops to stock them....oh boy, i wish my bunnies were still babies, they would have looked SO delicious in one of these....in fact i think the cloud bodysuits are the closest heaven will ever come to earth ! Sweet dreams, baby....

When i was a kid i visited a home for blind and disabled children, and it made a HUGE impression on me. Also because of the slides on the outside of the building to evacuate the children on the first floor quickly in case of a fire...Oh, how happy we were, when we were allowed to try them all together in a big fire practice ! For weeks i dreamed about having a slide from my bedroom window into the garden, it seemed like heaven to me.

I totally forgot about it, untill i spotted this house in Tokyo on Trendir. It is a design from the Japanese firm Level Architects. And it has got me thinking about those children and dreaming about a house with slides again....or to have the shop like that, imagine that...

Now surely, this must be what heaven looks like...pristine white, with bright spots of colour, slides to go downstairs and lots and lots of books.

(And imagine how easy it would be to take the dirty laundry downstairs ! )

After some quiet weeks and a lovely little holiday with Pippa & Ike, it is time for a quick update.

The most exciting news is we are working hard to get our webshop online, so you can shop from home and tell all your friends who do not live in Bristol about our lovely shop ! We hope to be online somewhere in the second half of September. We will keep you posted.

We were very keen to show you all the super cool clothes we ordered for the winter from Swedish brand MiniRodini, but unfortunately they delivered the wrong box. So you (and we) will have to wait a little bit longer for the fantastic dancing bear leggings, stunning eifeltower dresses, cool lightning tees and beanies, supersoft panda bear pullover and many other great designs.

Dutch brand Kik Kid has arrived...some really lovely babysuit and hats...we will show you some pics on the blog very soon, it's all so gorgeous !

Let me see, which other clothes brands have arrived already

....the first delivery of Molo, including the famous rainbow stripe wintercoat (photos will follow)

The Tapete winter collection has arrived, and it makes me very happy. The prints, the colors, the quality, the snug seventies fit...but which one to choose....i am totally in love with the asphalt grey baby tee with Samuel the Elephant in a signal red flock print. But Pippa & Ike are not babies anymore. Pink Paula the Owl then, or the lovely red tee with a golden lucky cat print for P . And i love the blue tee with the fluo orange race car, but Ike will probably choose the bright green Bruce Wayne aka Batman tee, because all super heroes rule at the moment.

The baby tees have a practical envelop neck and come in sizes 62/68 (3-6 months) to 86/92 (1 1/2-2 years) £19.99. The kids tees come in sizes 92/98 to 128/134 (2-8 years) £24.50

French company Lamali produces these beautiful fairtrade hangers in cooporation with small factories in Nepal. They are made from handmade paper, the colours are stunning and they would look equally good in your kitchen or livingroom as in the nursery, or as birthday party decoration.

What about those great white hotpants from Tammy Donohoe....or the very soft knitted yellow/milk striped summer bodysuit from Aymara...a cool basic jacket from Goodmoodkid (there is also a red one)...other items include Katvig, Green Baby, Rainbowbabies and a few nice vintage ones like the green knitted bodysuit.

My Best Book About Me

How wonderful are all the stories and memories you treasure about your child...that precious first smile, the day your little one got up and did his/her first steps, the hysterically funny things they say (perfectly timed of course) and oh boy, how easy is it to forget them as well !

There are a few baby record books out there, but none as funny and modern as 'My Best Book About Me' by Swedish illustrator Terese Oman.

There is plenty of space to write about all those memories. About the day your little loved one was born, or where you and your partner met. Where you got the inspiration from for his/her name, the places near or far you took them to, who they look like. About your family, your house, friends, what they liked or hated doing, what happened in the world the year they were born.

My own little man Ike on Stylesight ! I was at Bubble London last weekend to buy new collections for Spring/Summer 2012, and Ike came with me. We spotted lots of nice new things together and had a great time, and the photographers spotted Ike. As always he took his 'man-bag' with him (made by is grandmother), stuffed with crayons, a coloring in book, a few cars, frogs and gold fish, an apple, a sandwich and a few sweets....all the things you need to keep yourself entertained while mummy is working !

Make some space before you make this puzzle, it looks tiny but it's a 2 meters long train that will take you on many lovely journeys ! There is just so much to see...Oh no, the train has to stop, there are sheep on the track. There is a little wedding party in one of the carriages. Where are those piggies going ? And who is posting the chickens ?

This adorable puzzle (£15.80) is by Spanish toy brand Londji. It has 52 large pieces and is made of recycled cardboard.

We also stock some of their fantastic spinning tops, one that whistles, and one that actually turns upside down while spinning. Firm favorites in the shop are the lovely finger puppet theatres they do : The three little Pigs, Little Red Ridinghood and Pirates , each set comes with a strong recycled cardboard puppet theatre (£13.50).

Something genius can be something really simple, like this great UK invention The Genius Pad. They're just like the small yellow sticky notes, but then a GIANT 30 x 30 cms version ! Hours of fun guaranteed. Fantastic for the kids to make drawings on and stick them on the wall, or for next to the telephone to make endless amounts of doodles, or to leave giant love messages all over the house.

Or, like the people from Savage Chicken, you can draw a whole cartoon on it called 'All of Chewbacca's Dialogue'....GENIUS !

With a big smile on her face and her hands up in the air, she yells through the open door : 'I WANT A BABY, that is SO gorgeous, it makes me want to have a baby ! I WANT TO HAVE A BABY NOW, I REALLY DO !'

I can't believe that it's already six weeks ago since i first opened the door of the shop officially...time flies and I'm having so much fun. It has been absolutely great with so many compliments, so many customers, so many people smiling while looking around in the shop. And all the gorgeous little newborn babies and proud (grand) parents, and all the people who have been telling me great stories....

Inspired by the fifties and the Rockabilly culture, I think Swedish brand Rockefella is the coolest denim brand for kids at the moment. Old style classics with a natural cool and authentic look and all the right details. They do the perfect soft skinny 5 pocket denim, dark blue raw denim baggy jeans with turn ups and cinch back (the buckle at the back), and chino style black shorts (over the knee) with a heavy chain. These trousers will survive many trips to the playground !

And i can't wait until it's summer and the kids can wear the super cute black and white swimming trunks and the adorable 50's style polka dot bathing suit, with a tattoo on their shoulder and their hair in Rockabilly style of course.

MillerGoodman Playshapes is a beautiful box filled with 74 smooth rubberwood shapes, to make endless amounts of creatures, gardens, buildings, boats or vehicles with. Even unpacking the box is a delight, all the shapes together stack up as a big square the size of the box. It comes with an inspiration poster and a nice cotton bag to store all the shapes in.

I am a huge fan of these playshapes and so are the children of all different ages who play with them in our shop.

The Shapemaker is another wonderful box full of blocks by MillerGoodman. They are beautifully painted, all six sides different patterns and colours and i'm sure you can create a different picture every day for more then a year. Gorgeous, just gorgeous and worth the award they have won with it.

These colourful letters from Alpha Art have just arrived in our shop, and i like them a lot.

The whole alphabet in lower and upper cases, lots of different fonts, sizes and colours. To mix & match and write your child's name, or a funny message to your loved one....or just a nice word for on the shelf in the nursery (or your kitchen). These Alpha Art letters are fab, fun and well made. And they are freestanding, so no need to get the glue, screws or sticky tape out !

The Pippa & Ike Show is open for just over a week now, and the first week's bestseller is undoubtedly Tapete, a super cool t-shirt brand from my home country The Netherlands. The prints are really nice and graphic and either in flock, silver/gold or fluo colours, which make them (and your kids) standing out from the crowd even more. The fit is great too, 70's style small fit and long ! They stretch really well, so they're not just good on skinny kids.

Best Kid's Shop in Bristol

It's a bit miserable outside here in Bristol, but I've got a lovely blue sky with white fluffy summer clouds to look at just in front of my counter. I was just thinking about blue skies and warm summers, when this nice woman walks in. She looks around, gives me a warm bright smile and says :

"if there was an award for The Best Kid's Shop in Bristol, you would definitely win it! I tell you what, we all look at this stuff online, and here it is, all together in a beautiful shop...and it's so much nicer to see it and to feel it before you buy it, than to buy it online!"

The happy cloud pattern is a 60's design classic by Gunila Axen (Farg & Form), and is available in blue, pink, red, black and pale grey. 10 Reasons Not To Visit Bristol Zoo

1) Our creatures come in even more bizarre colours and patterns
2) They are more friendly and smiley
3) You can take them home! (once Mummy or Daddy has paid for them)
4) Our animals are not missing the warm weather from their country of origin
5) They're not smelly or noisy (but they don't enjoy bubble baths)
6) Why not enlist Santa's help and start your own little zoo ?! We've got plenty of creatures to choose from...
7) Real crocodiles don't make very good pets
8) Our animals don't have babies so there won't be any surprises with unwanted penguin litters (or what do you call them a flock?)
9) Our shop is on the Gloucester Road near lots of other shops, so it's more handy (you can even park in the bus lane in-between 9:30am-4:30pm)
10) Our animals are pretty small generally, so even if you do decide to start your own zoo, you won't need planing permission (there's plenty of room under your bed)

Oh, but having said that....DO visit Bristol Zoo as well, it's a fantastic !
